![]() I'd most likely want to secure at least 2 or 3 properties near that location to make it worth the hassle. If I were to place colonies on property farther away that what I am now (or even in a different direction than what my current ones are at), I would definitely charge and not even sure then if it would be worth it for just $150 per month. Note: you will visit much less in the Fall/Winter than you would in the Spring/Summer, so adjust accordingly and also use that to justify your rate to the landowner. I've also heard of charging mileage (especially if the property is far away), and charging a per visit fee. I have also heard of people taking a percentage of the tax savings which someone else already posted above. So if you needed to put 12 colonies at $150 per colony, that would be $1,800 per year paid out at $150 per month. Having said that, I have heard one landowner state that a quote that he got from the cheapest of all beekeepers that he spoke to was $150 per hive, per year paid out monthly throughout the year. The colonies that I keep on other's property are all reasonably convenient for me with the farthest away being 30 minutes. So far it is just a benefit for me to have a place to keep additional hives while at the same time I get to see what is involved in getting the Ag Valuation to better understand what I should charge. I'm from Texas as well, and while I do keep bees on other people's property, I do not yet charge anyone.
